Fire to Your Flame

This quote by evangelical Christian preacher (and author of The Purpose Driven Life) Rick Warren inspired me to explain the flow and overall purpose of the Gain Great Health Blog.  Some of you may be saying to yourself --- Get to the point...Where are the recommendations?  Where is the magic answer for great health?...What should I eat?  How much should I exercise?  How much should I sleep? What supplements should I be taking?...  

As Warren stated so eloquently (and I’m going to state not so eloquently!), you have to know why you’re doing what you’re doing before you do it.  Fear of death, desire to be around for your family later in life, and wanting to lose weight and fit into your skinny jeans, (although motivating some of the time) are most of the time not enough to instigate lifestyle change.  These motivations are often not enough to carry you through a holiday season filled with

gatherings, parties, sweets, and good-tasting (and not the most healthy) foods.  And these motivations are often time not enough to get you through a troublesome divorce, a hapless 30-year marriage, or a night on the town with your girlfriends.  

The ultimate goal when aspiring for great health is to have an everlasting fire to your flame and not one that goes out and comes back intermittently.   Imagine your drive for great health as one of those annoying candles that never go out, even in the midst of a non-asthmatic puff of air and tons of water!  So when the going gets “tough” (of course this is all about your perception), you will know why you want to make these changes in your life instead of just how to do it.  So, let your flame ignite and hopefully the Gain Great Health Blog will provide the fire.
